Bachelors Degree in Physics

 BS - Physics

Students completing a Bachelor of Science Degree in Physics will be prepared for the next step in pursuit of their chosen career.  Several paths are available depending upon the student’s interests including entering to graduate school in physics-new, pursuing graduate education in other disciplines (e.g., engineering, computer science, or a medically related field) or going directly into the job market upon graduation.  The degree elective requirements may be tailored to suit the student’s particular needs or interests. For example, a student wishing to attend medical school may wish to focus elective credit in physics-new and chemistry, a student wishing to pursue an advanced engineering degree may wish to emphasize engineering courses, etc. 

Learning Outcomes for Bachelors Degree in Physics

  • Knowledge of the core fields of physics-new including mathematics, classical mechanics, electricity and magnetism, thermodynamics, optics and wave phenomena, and modern physics-new (including quantum mechanics and relativity).
  • Skills in general laboratory procedures employed in scientific demonstrations and experimental work.
  • Knowledge and skills of basic research obtained by applying the scientific method of investigation in a capstone research experience (for those students intent on graduate degrees in science).
  • Knowledge of scientific procedures and background information in emphasis areas like engineering and medicine, etc., (for students interested in these areas).

 Bachelors Degree in Physics Education

 BS - Physics Education

The degree in physics-new education prepares a student to teach physics-new in secondary education. Students that complete this degree receive endorsements to teach physics-new. Completion of this program is dependent upon being accepted into the Secondary Education program through the School of Education. There is a great demand for teachers in physics-new and employment opportunities are excellent.

Associate Degree in Physical Science

The Associates Degree in Physical Science provides a knowledge base for students considering going further in the sciences with a Bachelors degree in Geology, Chemistry, Physics, or Environmental Science and Management. It can also be achieved as a stepping stone on the way to completing a Bachelors Degree or in conjunction with a certificate program.

 Minor in Physics

  Minor - Physics

The Minor in Physics can be combined with other college wide Bachelor degrees. The minor expands student knowledge of physical phenomena and provides fundamental knowledge, skills, and abilities of the foundational principles of physics.

Learning Outcomes for Minor in Physics

  • Fundamental knowledge of mathematics, classical mechanics, electricity and magnetism, thermodynamics, optics and wave phenomena, and modern physics-new (including quantum mechanics and relativity).
  • Basic laboratory skills to prepare demonstrations and to perform experiments.
