Oboist Luca Florin is an active freelance musician from Michigan. As an orchestral musician, Florin held positions with the Battle Creek Symphony, Dexter Symphony Orchestra, Jackson Chamber Orchestra, Kalamazoo Civic Theatre, Kalamazoo Philharmonia, and the Tecumseh Pops Orchestra. Florin was on faculty with the Community Music Center of Battle Creek as oboe instructor in addition to maintaining a private studio.

Florin has collaborated with numerous award-winning composers including Mark Camphouse, Richard Danielpour, Kenneth Fuchs, Paul Lansky, John Mackey, David Maslanka, Anthony Plog, and Jack Stamp. In 2013, Florin recorded with the Western Michigan University Symphonic Band under the Naxos Lable, premiering works by composer Anthony Plog. In 2014, the Birds on a Wire New Music Ensemble recorded Paul Lansky's "Contemplating Weather" with Bridge Records, the CD is set to arrive in Fall 2014, available on iTunes and Amazon. In July of 2014, Florin was a finalist for the Jacqueline Avent Concerto Competition at the Sewanee Summer Music Festival, performing Kenneth Fuchs' "Eventide, Concerto for English Horn" with the Sewanee Festival Orchestra. Florin has also made solo appearances with the Albion College Symphony Orchestra, performing Albinoni's Oboe Concerto in D, Op. 9. Most recently, Florin won the Concerto Competition with the Utah Philharmonia in 2016 and performed Philip Lane's "Three Spanish Dances." 

As an active orchestral oboist, Florin has performed under the baton of many leading conductors including JoAnn Falletta (Buffalo Philharmonic), Courtney Lewis (New York Philharmonic), Leonard Slatkin (Detroit Symphony), Thierry Fischer (Utah Symphony), Rossen Millanov (Philadelphia Orchestra), Hans Graf (Houston Symphony) and many more. In Utah, Florin holds the position as principal oboe with Utah's newest leading Chamber Orchestra: Sinfonia Salt Lake. He also holds principal positions with the Timpanogos Symphony Orchestra, The Utah Philharmonia, and performs with the Salt Lake Symphony, Utah Symphony and Toledo Symphony in Ohio. He is currently working on his DMA at the University of Utah. As a skilled reed-maker, Florin teaches clinics on reed-making and cane preparation as well as sells professional oboe and english horn reeds. His reeds have been sold across the United States as well as to four continents across the world.
