Jed Blodgett is a freelance percussionist and educator in the greater Salt Lake area and an adjunct instructor of percussion at Utah Valley University. As an orchestral percussionist Jed is active proponent of new and experimental works for percussion, having participated in several performances and premiers with the Salty Cricket Composers Collective and Incessant Noise concert series. Jed is also a regular sub with the Utah Symphony and an active studio percussionist.

Jed's experience as an educator is varied and prolific. At UVU he has directed the Campus Percussion Ensemble, the UVU World Percussion Ensemble, and currently instructs the Percussion Techniques class for future music educators. From 2009-2018 Jed served as the Director of Percussion and Fine Arts department chair at the Skaggs Catholic Center in Draper, UT. During this time the center’s percussion ensembles, steel bands, and marching percussion ensembles received recognition throughout the country and have been praised for their artistry and musical maturity. Jed is the founder of the Utah Steel Band Festival which has welcomed world-renowned artists such as Andy Narell, Liam Teague, Gary Gibson, and Tom Miller, and served as host and board member for the Utah Percussive Arts Society Day of Percussion Festival - recognized as one of the largest events of its kind in the country. He has presented at several educational clinics, including the Utah Music Educator’s Conference and the Catholic Diocese of Salt Lake City Professional Educator’s Conference. 

Jed is also recognized as a well-rounded drumset and hand percussion artist. He has many drum set studio credits to his name and is one of the founding members of the Latin jazz ensemble Salsa Azul, where he acted as timbalero from 2006-2008. Jed is a fluent Portuguese speaker and as such also has extensive experience in Afro-Brazilian percussion, having studied with legendary Brazilian percussionists Ailton Nunes, Jorge Alabê, Pitoco de Airá, and Sergio Krakowski.

Jed is a native of Kennewick, WA and has BM and MA degrees in music education from Brigham Young University.
