Jeremy Murphy is a Lecturer in the Department of Communication at Utah Valley University. 
 
Jeremy has been an active member of the speech and debate community, competing on the nationally ranked team at Illinois State University. At San Diego State University, he helped grow the speech and debate team, where they received their first ever national placement in 2015. He has worked multiple summer camps and taught public speaking to elementary, middle, and high school students. 
 
Before coming to UVU, he was working in Washington D.C. for a think tank that focused on financial reform. He performed research projects for the communication, development, and legal teams simultaneously. He also has experience working with nonprofits in the San Diego area, ranging from food security, veteran issues, and compassion research. He also has experience working as a beat reporter for the student-run telvision station at Illinois State University. 
 
His research focuses on critical rhetoric, specifically identity construction, LGBTQ issues, and the use of language.
