Brendan recieved his PhD in Ancient History from the Ohio State University in 2018. His dissertation "Going Viral in Ancient Rome: Spreading and Controlling Information in the Roman Republic" examines how gossip was used as a form of mass-communication among Rome's elite and non-elite. He has also published on the late antique letter-writer Avitus of Vienne and the Roman emperor Augustus.
