Barney Nye has a Ph.D (ABD) in Educational Leadership and Policy and Masters in Public Administration from the University of Utah and his research is focused on LGBTQ+ identity and plicy in higher educaiton and serves as Senior Director for Student Affairs Grants and Outreach.  A true Wolverine, Barney completed his undergraduate degree in Integrated Studies at UVU (then UVSC) and began his career working for three different Federal TRIO programs (Upward Bound, Educational Talent Search, and Educational Opportunity Centers) at UVU.  Following his work in TRIO, Barney joined the team in Multicultural and LGBT Student Services and served as Coordinator, Assistant Director and Director.  He is among the first generation of his family to graduate from college and is dedicated to spreading the word that higher education is a possibility regardless of one's background or identity, but that deeply understanding background and identity are integral parts of finding true success, both academically and personally.  To this end, he is focused on opportunities to strengthen the K-16 pipeline to insure all students have adequate opportunity and support to prepare for and complete college.  Barney believes he has learned far more from students than he has ever been able to teach and is always trying to pay forward the tremendous wisdome they have shared.  His portfolio of responsibilities include oversight of GEAR UP, TRIO Programs (Upward Bound, Student Support Serivces, and Educaitonal Opportunitiy Centers), SCUP (School Community and Univesity Partnerships), Care About Child Care, and the Student Affairs Grant Writing team.  Barney and his husband, Adam, make their home in Salt Lake county.
