Dr. Patch is an Associate Professor in the School of Education at Utah Valley University. He specializes in teaching Multicultural and Intercultural Education and English as a Second Language Teaching Strategies. He also served as the UVU SOE Elementary Education Department Chair for five years.

Prior to coming to UVU, he was a visiting lecturer at BYU, in Provo, Utah, and taught undergraduate courses at the University of Nevada – Reno. His professional experience was teaching school on the junior high and high school levels. He taught English, was the English Department Chair, and a Vice-Principal at Liahona High School in Tonga.

Dr. Patch’s areas of pursuit include: multicultural and diversity issues in education, including cultures of power, privilege, and culturally responsive and equitable education. He conducts educational experiences for UVU education students in Tonga, and also created and conducts student teaching opportunities in Tonga and New Zealand.

Dr. Patch has a PhD in Curriculum and Instruction from the University of Nevada, Reno. He also holds a BS degree in Communications and an MEd in Elementary Education from Brigham Young University.
