What is Required of a UVU Mentor?

  • Be an Example of a Successful Student
  • Complete 10 Mentoring Hours Per Week
    • These hours will consist of time spent in your assigned SLSS 1000 class, SLSS 2300, SLSS 240R, mentor sponsored activities and time spent helping students in or outside the classroom.
    • Mentor students outside of the classroom for at least 50 hours each semester. 
  • Attend and Facilitate Mentor Classes
    • Both in your assigned SLSS 1000 and SLSS 2300/240R classes
    • The most common classes mentors are placed with are: SLSS 1000, 1100, 1200, 3200, 2300/240R
  • Meet Weekly With Assigned Instructor
  • Participate in Required Activities
    • There will be several mandatory events all mentors MUST attend and are not allowed to miss. Among them are Freshman Thanksgiving and UVLC Conference
  • Participate in Summer Team Building Activities
    • Starting the summer with Mentor Bootcamp in May, you will then be expected to help with Jumpstart Orientations (June-July) and end the summer with a three to five day overnight Service Expedition (August)
    • The last few expeditions have been Flaming Gorge, Jackson Hole Wyoming, the Grand Tetons, and other fun places!

How Do I Become a Mentor?

  1. Complete University Student Success (SLSS 1000) and Pass With a B (3.0) or Higher
  2. Complete Leader-Teacher and Mentor (SLSS 3200) With a B (3.0) or Higher
  3. Fill out the application in the "Apply Now" Section No Later than March 27th, 2020 by Midnight
  4. Attend the Round Robin Interview in April 
    • You Must Bring 2 Letters of Recommendation to the interview and a Copy of Your Most Recent Transcripts
    • More Detailed Information is Given in the SLSS 3200 Class
