What is Required of a UVU Mentor?

To become a UVU Mentor:

  • Take and pass one of the following: SLSS 1000, SLSS 1100, SLSS 1200, SLSS 2100, or SLSS 2500 and pass with a B or higher (you may be currently enrolled at the time of your application)
  • Take and pass SLSS 3200 and pass with a B or higher (you may be currently enrolled at the time of your application)
  • 2.75 Cumulative GPA

Requirements while in the program:

  • Enroll in SLSS 2300 (MWF 1pm) and complete with an A- during Fall semester.  
  • Every following semester enroll in SLSS 240R (W 1pm) and pass with an A- or higher.
  • Attend the course you are assigned to mentor every class period. You may be assigned to mentor SLSS 1000, 1100, 2100, 3200; ENGH 0890 or 1005; an English Language Learning course; or a science course such as CHEM 1210.
  • Attend all required events, trainings, orientations, etc.:
  • Bootcamp, May
  • Jumpstart Orientations (various dates over the summer)
  • Fall Retreat, August
  • Connections Conference, August 
  • Wolverine Summit, August 
  • First Year Fest: November 
  • UVLC, TDB (probably March)
