Applicant information will be submitted online through the Spring 2024-2025 Cheer Team Application.

  • Upload Letter of Recommendation 
  • Upload UVU Physical Form (current physical is required to try out for Cheer Team) PHYSICAL FORM
  • Upload Resume (include all cheer training, leadership roles, stunting/tumbling experience, competition tiles, and teaching or choreography opporuntities you have had)
  • Upload receipt as proof of payment for $40 audition fee through the Spirit Squad Payment Portal

Open Gym - May 14, May 16, 2024

Open Gym from 5-7pm

Location: SLWC MAC Court (SL 306)

Open Gym Schedule

  • 5:00pm-Official Open Gym Begins
  • During the open gym, each candidate will practice the following: 
    • Jumps
    • Standing Tumbling 
    • Running Tumbling 
    • Stunt(s)
  • Candidates will be asked to find individuals to stunt with for their final tryout, which is why the open gym is a good place to find those who you stunt best with.

Tryouts May 17th & May 18th, 2024

First Round: Friday May 17th from 4:00pm-9:00pm

Second Round: Saturday May 18th from 9:00am-6:00pm

Location: SLWC MAC Court (SL 306) 

  • 3:30 Check In
  • 4:00pm-Official Tryout Begins 
  • During the tryout, each candidate will showcase the following: 
    • Jumps
    • Standing Tumbling
    • Running Tumbling
    • Stunt(s)
  • After the first round, each candidate will be notified if they advance to the second round. 
  • 2024-2025 UVU Cheer Team will be announced the following week!

Additional Information

 

Tryout Information
  • Solid color cheer short or spandex
  • Solid color tank or sports bra
  • Hair either in 1/2 up or pony tail with a bow
  • Cheer/athletic shoe

Tryout Stunts

  • Bases/Backspots-
    • Minimum requirement-is a full up heel stretch
  • Candidates will be asked to perform a stunt sequence of their choice. Collegiate level stunts will be scored higher such as back handspring ups, rewinds and elite level dismounts.
  • Flyers
    • Minimum requirement is a full up heel stretch
  • Optional Stunt- Candidates will be asked to perform a stunt sequence of their choice. Collegiate level stunts will be scored higher. Flyers should be able to demonstrate their flexibility through multiple body positions.

Audition & Skill Requirements

**Do not perform any skills that have not been mastered prior to your tryout.

Required Tumbling, Jumps & Stunting

  • Standing Tumbling: Standing tuck and toe touch tuck
  • Additional: hand hand layout or full
  • Running Tumbling: Round-off handspring layout or full
  • Optional running pass will be required
  • Toe touch, hurdler, pike flexibility, technique and height
  • Pod Stunting: Backhand spring up, double down

Required Skills & Interview

  • Rally/Cheer: Voice quality, projection, showmanship and appearance
  • Interview: Each candidate at the live audition will have a short interview with the Spirit Squad Staff
