Devin Baer is the national head of subscriber acquisition for Google Fiber and has led the company's business operations and external affairs in Utah for the past three years. Prior to joining the Fiber team in Utah, he oversaw sales strategy for other Google products at the company headquarters in Mountain View, Calif.

Before joining Google, Baer led various teams at technology startups in Utah, including running the revenue teams for until it was acquired by Deluxe Corp. He studied philosophy and political science at Brigham Young University — Idaho. He serves on various boards throughout the state, including the Utah Valley Chamber of Commerce, United Way of Utah County, Communities that Care, and Utah BusinessQ magazine.

Merrilee Boyack

Merrilee Boyack has a portfolio career with many aspects. She is an estate-planning attorney preparing trusts, wills, and powers of attorney. Her law practice covers Utah and California. Boyack is also a professional lecturer and speaks all over the country, has been featured for many years at Brigham Young University Education Week and Time Out for Women, and is a popular keynote presenter. She is the author of many books and talks, including “The Parenting Breakthrough,” “Strangling Your Husband Is Not an Option,” “In Trying Times, Just Keep Trying,” and “Toss the Guilt, Catch the Joy.”

Boyack is also very involved in the community, serving on the Utah County United Way Board of Directors, President of Family Watch International-Utah, and she is the Chairman of the Empowered Families Coalition — Utah. She has held elected office twice and loves politics.

Martin Frey

Martin Frey

Martin Frey is a successful business leader, active angel investor, and accomplished mountaineer and sailor. In April 2016 he completed an 11-year journey to become the first person to climb the world’s Seven Summits — the highest peaks on each continent — and to sail the Seven Seas.

Frey’s groundbreaking achievement follows an illustrious 33-year business career that included 13 years in Silicon Valley as a senior director for Cisco, where he ran a global support organization for Cisco’s largest customers. In 2004 he moved to Utah, where he served as managing director of the Utah Governor’s Office of Economic Development, developing and leading programs to create, grow, and recruit Utah businesses. Frey’s efforts were instrumental in helping Governor Jon Huntsman lay the foundation for a highly successful economic development model that continues to be recognized at the national level.

Frey is passionate about inspiring the next generation of entrepreneurs and actively offers his time and talents to a wide array of organizations in the Utah community. He currently serves on the advisory councils of the Utah Valley University Business School, Brigham Young University College of Engineering, and University of Utah College of Humanities, and he judges social entrepreneurship competitions for Give Salt Lake and the Utah Community Foundation.

Frey graduated from Brigham Young University in mechanical engineering and from Harvard’s Advanced Management Program. He and his wife, Kym, live in Holladay, Utah, and have two children.

She has worked for small and mid-sized accounting firms and previously had her own CPA firm in Orem. She now owns Gardner Estate & Trust CPA LLC, a firm in Cedar City, Utah, specializing in estate and trust taxation, accounting, and administration. She has spoken about trusts at various Estate Planning Council and CPA meetings in Utah.

Gardner graduated cum laude and Phi Kappa Phi from Brigham Young University with a Bachelor of Science in Accounting. She is the past president of the Southern Utah Estate Planning Council and past treasurer of the Utah Valley Estate Planning Council and actively participates in both. She is the widowed mother of six children and stepmother of seven more. (The Brady Bunch had it easy!) She and her husband, Dean, have 27 grandchildren.

Sophie Antal Gilbert is the program director of advisor insights and the director of capital markets insights for Russell Investments’ Private Client Services business. She is responsible for defining, developing, and coordinating the communications strategy of the group that shapes and delivers market analysis designed to help private client advisors serve their clients more effectively.

Gilbert joined Russell Investments in 2010 as a product and field marketing manager, where she developed marketing materials and campaigns in support of Russell Investments’ products and services. In 2001, she started her career as an associate for The Capital Group Companies.

She held several positions at The Capital Group, including communications analyst and writer, marketing coordinator, and senior marketing manager. As a marketing coordinator, she was responsible for developing marketing materials and campaigns in support of Capital’s retail mutual fund sales in Germany, the United Kingdom, Switzerland, Hong Kong, and Singapore. As a senior marketing manager, she led the team responsible for developing communications and sales materials for Capital’s U.S. high net worth investor business.

Gilbert holds an M.A. in International Relations and Diplomacy from the University of London and a B.A. in International Relations from Smith College.

Dave Jackson has over 30 years’ experience working in employee benefits and human resource consulting. He works with some of Utah’s largest and notable employers. He is a nationally known health reformer and has been instrumental in the development, implementation, and promotion of Utah’s health system reforms, which predate the Affordable Care Act by several years. He has been a consultant to the state of Utah for health system reform matters and was appointed by Governor Jon Huntsman Jr. to the Utah Defined Contribution Risk Adjustment Board as the citizen representative and reappointed by Governor Gary R. In 1987 Jackson founded First West Brokerage Services Inc., the parent company of FirstWest Benefit Solutions. Robert Spendlove is a senior vice president and the economic and public policy officer for Zions Bank. In this capacity he monitors and reports on economic indicators and public policy developments for the bank. Founded in 1873, Zions Bank is Utah's oldest financial institution. It operates locations in communities throughout the intermountain west.

Spendlove's research interests are primarily in the areas of macroeconomics, demographics, financial markets, and public policy. He frequently advises and briefs policymakers, as well as business and civic groups, throughout the United States. He is also regularly called on to give expert analysis in the print, radio, and television media. He is known for his insightful and understandable approach to explaining economic trends.

Spendlove also serves in the Utah House of Representatives, to which he was elected in 2014. He represents District 49 in the legislature, covering parts of Sandy and Cottonwood Heights. He is the vice chair of the Public Education Appropriations Committee and serves on the Health and Human Services and Transportation committees.

Spendlove serves on a number of boards and commissions, including the Utah Economic Council, the Utah International Relations and Trade Commission, Envision Utah, and the U.S. Senate Advisory Committee on Hispanic Affairs for Financial Literacy.

Norman Wright

Norman Wright, Ph.D., currently serves as the dean of the Woodbury School of Business at Utah Valley University. He holds a Ph.D. in Management from The Wharton School and degrees from Brigham Young University. Prior to joining the Woodbury School of Business, he taught and served as a university administrator in Saudi Arabia, Dubai, Nigeria, and Hawaii. Wright is an active scholar, having served as the editor of the Journal of Microfinance and publishing his own research on cross-cultural management and entrepreneurship in and around protected areas. He routinely engages in consulting and training activities, working with such diverse organizations as Dubai Municipality, HSBC, World Wildlife Fund, China Youth Travel Services, Ajman University of Science and Technology, the Polynesian Cultural Center, and the National Entrepreneurship Centre in Saudi Arabia.
