UVU Honors Community Partners

John Valentine, Reed Halladay, and Fillmore Spencer LLC were honored with Utah Valley University Community Partner Awards at the UVU Business and Economic Forum May 14, 2015. The award recognizes outstanding contributions to UVU’s mission.

Commissioner John Valentine served in the Utah Legislature from 1988 to 2014 and was a strong proponent of UVU and of higher education throughout the state. He supported UVU’s transformation from a two-year community college to a four-year college and, later, to a university. He supported funding for the library and classroom buildings. During his nearly 40 years as a practicing tax attorney, he used public-private partnerships to preserve the beauty of the community and was instrumental in protecting Rock Canyon near Provo and the Range Creek preserve near Price, Utah. In 2014, Valentine was appointed to Governor Gary Herbert’s cabinet as chair of the State Tax Commission.

Reed Halladay endowed the Reed and Christine Halladay Executive Lecture series at UVU’s Woodbury School of Business. The highly acclaimed lectures bring local, regional, and national business leaders to UVU to share their experiences in life and business, serving as inspiration to UVU students. The lectures, which are open to the public, have engaged prominent business leaders with the University, helping to extend its connections with the wider community. Halladay is a founding member of Bel Air Investment Advisors LLC of Los Angeles, which represents many Utah clients, and owns the commercial real estate development firm PEG Development in Provo. He serves on the National Advisory Council for the Woodbury School of Business.

The Provo-based law firm Fillmore Spencer LLC is a strong supporter of UVU. Attorneys with the firm are involved in several university programs, including the Center for Constitutional Studies, the President’s Scholarship Ball, the Entrepreneurship Institute/Business Advisory Board, the Culinary Arts Institute and pre-law studies. Along with its volunteer efforts at the University, the firm is proud to claim three UVU graduates among its attorneys. Fillmore Spencer is Utah County’s largest local law firm and provides a wide range of legal services.
