UVU Opera presents: Lucia di Lammermoor

If you cherish the classic tale of star-crossed love in Romeo and Juliet, then Lucia di Lammermoor will sweep you away with its intense romance. The most famous of all bel canto operas, you’ll be transfixed by the passion of the heroine and her lover Edgardo (you’ll long remember their heavenly love duet) and the vocal fireworks of Lucia’s dazzling mad scene, as she breaks your heart while sending spectacular coloratura and high notes soaring.

UVU Dance presents: Repertory Ballet Ensemble in Concert

RBE in Concert features an evening of diverse performances by UVU’s Repertory Ballet Ensemble. The concert will include classical and contemporary works created and staged by UVU Department of Dance Faculty. This year’s concert will feature excerpts from Swan Lake, a dance-for-film version of Alice in Wonderland, and two new contemporary works. Audiences of all ages are sure to delight in the experience.

An evening for music lovers, UVU Symphony Orchestra's annual Concerto Night features some of the best UVU student performers as soloists playing some of the best classical music ever written. The Symphony's mission is to provide experiences that will enrich the musical artistry of students and enliven the musical community on and off campus. Students from all performance areas come together to meet that goal.

UVU Chamber Choir presents: Songs of the Renaissance

To facilitate small group learning during the epidemic, members of the Chamber Choir have learned one-to-a-part chamber music that they will present for an evening of motets and madrigals. Ranging from glorious motets by Medieval composers Guillaume Dufay and John Dunstable to scandalous madrigals by Tudor period Renaissance composers Thomas Weelkes and Jacob Arcadelt, this collection of short songs is full of passion, wit, and beauty.

King Deramo is on the search for a bride. To ensure he finds a wife who truly loves him, he enlists the help of a magical statue, given to him by the great wizard Durandarte. His happily ever after, however, is threatened by his traitorous minister Tartaglia, who seeks both Deramo’s kingdom and his bride, Angela. When Tartaglia uses a magic spell to usurp the throne, Deramo and Angela must find a way to save the kingdom and their future happiness. You’ll love this high-spirited romance presented as a radio play with live foley artists.

UVU Dance presents: Contemporary Dance Ensemble’s Against the Grain

Join us for an evening of innovation, versatility, and passion with Contemporary Dance Ensemble’s Against the Grain. Experience a world premier by internationally recognized choreographer and Department of Dance faculty member, Brian Gerke, which utilizes each dancer’s unique movement style as well as 12 large colorful rugs on the stage. Witness a new screendance from award-winning choreographer Mike Esperanza, who taught all of his movement from his NYC apartment while the CDE dancers learned the material entirely via Zoom. Esperanza’s detailed storyboard and clear vision allowed for seamless execution of all handheld and drone shots to be filmed in Utah County in under 10 hours. Our dancers take on technology by creating new works using stop motion animation under the direction of Department of Dance faculty member, Sarah Donohue. The evening concludes with two innovative works by choreographers LajaMartin and Laura Brick. CDE continues to push boundaries while creating award winning dance performance. Don’t miss this show!

What will happen to Cinderella at the ball … game? That's the surprising climactic question in this contemporary Latin-American Cinderella musical, which delightfully turns the classic fairy tale on its head, telling the story from both Cinderella and the "stepsister's" perspective. Cinderella, a newcomer from Puerto Rico, comes to visit her "stepsister," Rosa, in the United States. The catch … Cinderella only speaks Spanish and Rosa only speaks English. Will these two girls be able to reach an understanding at the (basket) ball game?

As winter draws to an end, wake up with UVU’s Symphony Orchestra as they perform Tchaikovsky’s Winter Dreams. The Orchestra is excited to welcome special guest artist Donna Fairbanks who will perform as the soloist for Prokofiev’s Violin Concerto No. 2. Both pieces are inspired by traditional Russian folk music.

UVU Chamber Choir presents: Brahms’ Ein Deutsches Requiem

Brahms’ A German Requiem is heralded as one of the greatest choral masterworks, not only for its gorgeous melodies, but for its nondenominational, humanist take on a traditionally Catholic genre. The UVU Chamber Choir will perform his 1871 “London edition” for four-hand piano, chorus, and soloists. This chamber version, featuring Kathleen Stitt and Ashley Vasquez at the piano, brings to our epidemic reality a refreshing intimacy and musical clarity that would otherwise appear grandiose in its full form.

UVU Ballroom presents: Spring Concert

The UVU Ballroom Dance Company is a premiere performance company. After competing on Dancing with the Stars, the group won the Mirror Ball trophy as the champions of the show's first-ever collegiate competition. The UVU Ballroom Dance Company has won four world titles at the Open British Championships held in Blackpool, England and performed in China. The company wows audiences and judges everywhere with their fresh choreography and enthusiasm for the art of ballroom styles in International and American, including Latin, Standard Ballroom, Smooth, and Rhythm. Directed by Chris Witt and Tara Boyd.
