Faculty Recital Series:
Isaac Hurtado

The purpose of the faculty recital series is to give students an opportunity to hear their professors perform in order to build their confidence in the faculty as performing artists as well as teachers. Isaac Hurtado is the director of the Opera Program at UVU.

Dr. Isaac Hurtado has drawn critical acclaim for performances of over 30 leading tenor roles across the United States. Since making his leading role debut in 2004 with Festival Opera (CA) in the title role of Romeo et Juliette, his portrayals of Rodolfo in La Boheme, Edgardo in Lucia di Lamermoor, Werther in Werther, Il Duca di Mantova in Rigoletto, Tamino in Die Zauberflote, Alfredo in La Traviata, Pinkerton in Madama Butterfly, the title role in Bernstein's Candide, Ferrando in Cosi fan tutte, and Don Jose in Carmen, have demonstrated "money notes worth every penny" and "wonderful acting."

Timmon and the Magic Shoes

Dangers lurk around every corner on the African Savannah as dogs and lions are out hunting. Wandering away from home, Timmon, a young giraffe born with a noticeably short neck, stumbles into threatening territory. While finding a safe path, Timmon meets a grasshopper who isn’t able to jump, and a dog who is vision-impaired. Trouble finds these three travelers in the form of a rival pack of dogs. Will these three new acquaintances band together or will they let their differences continue to keep them apart?

Experience the colors of fall with an intimate evening of classical music from the UVU Chamber Orchestra. The program features Tchaikovsky’s Serenade for Strings, Mozart’s Divertimento, and music from Polish film composer Orawa Killar, written about the mountains of Poland.

There’s nothing like a big band playing some of the best music jazz has to offer. Join the Jazz Orchestra as they share some of the most important music from the jazz scene both past and present. Be a part of that spontaneous moment of creation that happens as truly great musicians are inspired by each other and great composers. You’ll have a blast!

You’ll leave with more room in your soul to catch those moments of magic.

Momentum: Synergy Dance in Concert

Synergy Dance Company explores the small but powerful, the intimate but expressive, and the artistry of the individual in their annual celebration of student choreography. Join them for an evening of solos, duets, and small group pieces as well as two Dance for Film works created by guest artist Brett Easterling and co-artistic directors Katie Taylor and Doris Trujillo. The company members are dynamic performers as well as imaginative choreographers who present dance as a wonderfully diverse and lively performance art. Don’t miss out on this exiting evening of beauty, and power.

UVU Wind Symphony: Addition Through Subtraction

We all know that less is often more, and the UVU Wind Symphony proves that point this semester. Because of the required safety precautions, they’ve been exploring smaller chamber pieces in addition to works for the entire symphony. You get to enjoy the fruit of their labors in this exciting concert that blends both the large and the small to give you the best of both worlds. Join them for an evening of intimacy and grandeur.

Percussion Fall Concert

The pounding of drums is something every culture is familiar with from the steel drums of the Caribbean, to the deserts of the Middle East, to the drum set of your favorite band. Join the UVU Percussion Ensemble as they explore classical pieces from different cultures as well as reinterpretations of some of your modern favorites. The concert will be split in half between the newly founded UVU steel band playing songs of the Caribbean as well as the UVU Percussion Ensemble playing contemporary classical chamber music and musical styles and instruments from the Middle East. The highlight of the evening will be the world-premiere of Emma O’Halloran’s SHELL. You’ll leave with your blood pounding from the excitement of the evening.

Symphony Orchestra Fall Concert

The Symphony Orchestra is the premiere classical music ensemble at UVU featuring strings woodwinds, brass, and percussion. The program for this concert will feature one of the greatest and most beloved works of the symphonic repertoire, Brahms's 4th Symphony. Come and enjoy a very calm and pastoral evening at the Symphony.

UVU Ballroom Dance Company
presents “Rise Above”

7:30pm Smith Theatre Dance

The UVU Ballroom Dance Company is a premiere performance company. After competing on Dancing with the Stars, the group won the Mirror Ball trophy as the champions of the show's first-ever collegiate competition. The UVU Ballroom Dance Company has won four world titles at the Open British Championships held in Blackpool, England and performed in China. The company wows audiences and judges everywhere with their fresh choreography and enthusiasm for the art of ballroom styles in International and American, including Latin, Standard Ballroom, Smooth, and Rhythm. Directed by Chris Witt and Tara Boyd.

This year, to support social distancing, the concert will be filmed and then shown to a live audience in the Smith Theatre. The schedule for the showings is:
