2 Year SEED

Seed grants are funded for one to two years, $15,000 per year. Two year Seeds require a mid-term report prior to second year funding. The purpose of these grants is to prepare the ground and data collection for external funding after the two year.

2018-19 Academic Year Deadlines: 5:00 PM, May 3, 2018, October 3, 2018.

2019-20 Academic Year Deadlines: 5:00 PM, May 17, 2019, October 2019.

The GEL committee is also interested in promoting projects that emphasize current UVU priorities. This is not, necessary, but including priorities such as, inclusion, first-generation, completion/retention, or targets the Freshmen, Sophomore level will add additional merit to the proposal.

How to Apply

After reviewing the proposal component and rubric to determine if your project fits within the GEL mission, the project leader (a UVU faculty or staff member) will complete the online application. It is highly recommended that the project leader attend an applicant workshop.

Students or community organizations must collaborate with a faculty or staff member to serve as project leader. The project leader is accountable for the fiscal responsibility of the grant.

Before the application is submitted, each project participant must agree to and sign the terms and conditions. In addition, the Statement of Acknowledgement form needs to be completed by the project leader and signed by the dean, department chair and financial manager.

After the GEL Advisory Board has reviewed all applications, the project leader, financial manager, and department chair will be notified of approval status through email.

Steps to Apply

  1. Project Leader (PL) consults with Chair and Dean about project feasibility and support.
  2. PL consults with GEL Advisory Board (optional).
  3. Complete online application. PLEASE NOTE: You will need to secure signatures in order to complete the application. Please plan ahead--securing signatures from your department chair, dean and financial manager may take several days.
  4. OEL office reviews:
    • Budget
    • Signatures
  5. GEL Advisory Board reviews and approves proposals.
  6. Project Leaders notified by email.
  7. PL signs GEL orientation documentation (mandatory before funds disseminated).

Application Instructions

  1. Click here to apply for GEL Grants. You will be transferred to OrgSync, where you will create a membership log in.
  2. Click on "Signup" and complete membership.
  3. Logon to OrgSync with your username and password.
  4. In the upper right corner click on "My Membership" and add Office of Engaged Learning to your memberships.
  5. Click on "Forms."
  6. Select appropriate application to complete.


What types of items should be included in a proposal?

GEL proposals will be reviewed on three broad themes:

  1. How does the project enhance UVU student learning?
  2. What is the educational experience in the community - how does it benefit the targeted community?
  3. How does the project strengthen programming beyond the students involved?

In addition, proposals will be judged on budget, overall proposal strength, and quality of writing.
