The UVU Stronger Families Project (SFP) is comprised of the collective efforts and community partnerships with various departments and programs at Utah Valley University. The SFP leverages student engaged learning experiences to help families achieve meaningful and successful lives in a mutually beneficial way. Families participate for free in weekly classes and receive personalized support from individual family coaches.
Mission Statement: “Elevate the family as the fundamental source of happiness and well-being by teaching parents, teens, and children how to improve their interactions and emotional patterns within the family.”

The Stronger Family’s Project is an amazing program. The curriculum taught in the parent class helped us focus on the important things to achieve the family relationship we wanted. We benefitted by learning from and with other parents in the class. We heard about their hardships, struggles, and desire to improve as families.

The Stronger Family’s Project is an amazing program. The curriculum taught in the parent class helped us focus on the important things to achieve the family relationship we wanted. We benefitted by learning from and with other parents in the class. We heard about their hardships, struggles, and desire to improve as families. Each parent loves their children and it was such a heartwarming experience to witness each other’s weekly progress and see parents supporting each other’s efforts. I really admired those that made huge changes in their lives to have better and healthier relationships.
We had goals to set almost every week to see our progress and a supportive, kind, liaison checking in to hold us accountable. A few things we started during the program and continue to do now are: family dinners 4-6 times a week, strive to have more one on one time with each child and ask our children their opinions on decisions that would affect them. What a difference this has made in our family. Thank you!

I cannot say enough about what a wonderful program it is. The UVU Stronger Families Project was exactly what we needed. It was a great reminder that there are always things you can implement to make your family stronger, happier, healthier and more loving.

I cannot say enough about what a wonderful program it is. My husband and I have been married 13 years and have 4 children, and we consider ourselves a strong family with strong values and a loving home. However, there were definitely some things we wanted to do better at and needed some guidance on how to improve. The UVU Stronger Families Project was exactly what we needed. It was a great reminder that there are always things you can implement to make your family stronger, happier, healthier and more loving.
The curriculum was so nice to have so we could study throughout the week. The class discussions with the interns and other attendees were good reminders that there are a lot of families out there trying to do and be better and that we were not alone. I felt like, logically, I knew a lot of the material, but actually sitting down each week and devoting time to attending the class online and then doing the very simple homework just kept the goals more at the forefront of my mind. So each day I was being more intentional and more dedicated to actually choosing to implement changes in our family that had substantial and lasting effects.
The biggest changes were in the patience and kindness I saw us all extending to each other. We also had great discussions as a family about the changes we were making, and it made a palpable difference in the feel of our home and our relationships. We graduated months ago, but our resolve to do better has not faded. We are so grateful to UVU and the Stronger Families Project for this much needed reminder of all the good things we can do to strengthen our family relationships. It has renewed our marriage and our relationships with our children, and revitalized our resolve to be better, more involved humans!

This project taught me to connect with my children and teach them by example, with rules that were reflected with the intervention of everyone at home with rewards and with more fluid communication. This experience allowed me to understand and interact with mothers and fathers who are going through our same concerns.

Hi my name is Karin Ponce. It is very rewarding and beautiful to have this learning tool with the Stronger Families Project, I arrived two months ago in the United States, a beautiful country with many opportunities to improve. I was always looking for places that teach us to make better decisions with our children, especially as a single mother who tries to manage to connect with them so that our family relationship is increasingly united.
How am I going to ask my children to manage the conflict if we do not know how to do it, or how are we going to ask our children for affection if we do not know how to treat each other with affection? This project taught me to connect with my children and teach them by example, with rules that were reflected with the intervention of everyone at home with rewards and with more fluid communication. This experience allowed me to understand and interact with mothers and fathers who are going through our same concerns. The UVU interns were incredible, they managed to reach each parent and fully resolve the questions. We looked forward to each Tuesday night, the children felt very comfortable being each in their classes with their student teachers who were very suitable for their ages. It has really been the best family program that has led me to proper learning.
Thank you, thank you and thank you very much!!!

Before, we were afraid to make rules, but the lessons helped us talk about family rules and values. As parents, we now feel more confident, knowing we are on the same page and understand how to help our kids. The kids are more respectful at home and happier.

Before, we were afraid to make rules, but the lessons helped us talk about family rules and values and also let the kids know the consequences and rewards. We learned that kids actually like having rules. My husband and I were able to talk with the kids about the rules and set the consequences together. As parents, we now feel more confident, knowing we are on the same page and understand how to help our kids. The kids are more respectful at home and happier.
