The UVU Wasatch Campus offers educational opportunities to area residents in a warm and welcoming environment. We are located two miles North of Heber City on Highway 40. The campus has been at the present location since 2003.
In the 1980s and early 1990s some courses were offered in Wasatch and Summit County School Districts through what was then Utah Valley Community College. In January 1993 the Park City Educational Center opened. Classes were held there until January 1995 when offices and classes were moved to Heber City.
In Heber City the college used six classrooms in two buildings located between the old Heber Library and Lee's Music Store on Midway Lane. Growth and demand demonstrated the need for a full service Extended Studies campus in Heber City. Working together, the community and college agreed on the current site and construction began in 2001 with completion in 2003. The new facility opened as Utah Valley State College (UVSC) Wasatch Campus.
In the summer of 2008 UVSC gained University status. The name changed to Utah Valley University Wasatch Campus. The building includes a bookstore, a library, an advising and administrative suite, a cafeteria, an exercise gym, a computer classroom, a student computer lab, student life facilities, sixteen instructional rooms, a science lab, faculty work space, and a NOAA Climate Change Monitoring Station where science students can access and monitor data as part of their studies.
In May 2009, due to budget constraints, UVU reorganized the Wasatch Campus, downsizing the full-time administrative staff from nine employees to three. The objective was to minimize impact to instruction while reducing administrative overhead costs. Because of this restructuring, the Wasatch Campus is highly profitable and able to offer a high-quality education at a low cost for students.
The Wasatch Campus maintains about 40 part-time adjunct faculty and other support staff. Today, UVU Wasatch offers three Associate of Science degrees (Behavioral Science, Business Management, and University Studies) and one Bachelor of Science degree in Elementary Education.
Many new and exciting changes and updates are on the horizon for the UVU Wasatch Campus. Check back soon to hear about the bright future of our extended campus.
