BIOGRAPHY

Dr. Matt North has been teaching in the Information Systems and Technology department at UVU since 2015, after having taught for more than a decade at colleges in Pennsylvania, Argentina and Idaho. His teaching expertise is in database design, development and administration, data analytics, and geographic information systems (GIS). Research areas include data analytics, GIS, and technology pedagogy. He is the author of two books, Life Lessons & Leadership, and Data Mining for the Masses, as well as numerous journal papers, articles, book chapters, and conference presentations. An award winning professor and scholar, he is a Fulbright alumnus, and the recipient of the Ben Bauman Award for Excellence, the Gamma Sigma Alpha Outstanding Professor Award, and the UVU Alumni Outstanding Professor award.

Dr. North loves the university's mission with emphasis placed on engaged, student-focused undergraduate education. Several of his publications are with undergraduate student co-authors, and he is always interested in collaborating with bright and motivated scholars. His office is in the Computer Science building 601A, and contains an impressive collection of memorabilia from eBay (where he worked for years as a software engineer), and The Simpsons (which he watches on a regular basis).
