I earned my BS, MS, and PhD in Mechanical Engineering from BYU. I specialized in Aerospace and Aeronautical Engineering which heavily involve Thermal and Fluid Science courses. I Have been teaching since 1990 and have taught courses in Engineering, Mathematics, and Physics.

As the Chair I lead the leadership team to maintain an active and functioning ASME Utah Professional Section.
Organized many activities during the past academic year.

We appreciate the leadership team of the ASME Utah Valley University Student Sectionstaying in contact with ASME staff this year and providing programs and activities to helpstudents on campus. We continue to be impressed by your willingness to share yourtime, come up with new ideas, and encourage classmates to get involved in clubs.
This was a University Faculty Excellence award that considered all three areas of teaching, scholarship, and service. Faculty are usually nominated for this award by either colleagues or department chairs.
This was a College of Engineering and Technology Faculty Service Excellence Award for 2021-2022 academic year. Although it was a college award it considered department, college, university, community, and professional services.
I supervised a group of students who competed in the ASME-IAM3D International Competition and took the first place in the nation in 2021 and 2022. The competition involved designing and building a drone that would pick up and safely deliver a payload from one point to another as fast as possible while flying through obstacles. The drone had to repeat the test five times. Students were NOT allowed to use any commercially available drones. Drones had to be designed, 3D printed and built by students. Only electronics could be purchased. I met with students on a weekly basis to discuss the design, testing, and building processes. I participated in the static failure testing and some flying tests of the drones. The competition also involved writing a technical paper on the design and building processes of the drone. The paper was intended to be a writing practice for students similar to journal papers in format. I spent many hours editing, explaining to students, and rewriting a very significant portion of the paper since none of them had any previous experience in writing journal papers. For instance, I spent about three hours the very last night helping the team leader to finish writing the paper and submitting it right before the deadline at midnight. The same group competed again in 2022. They redesigned the grip system using compliant mechanism. they also reduced the size, the weight, and the number of parts of a completely new drone. The team took the first place again. Outstanding achievements for our students in the fairly new engineering program (developed in 2018) at UVU.
This is an award sponsored by AIAA Utah Section. It is given annually to faculty who demonstrate great achievements in the field of engineering education.
