Jared Barney brings more than two decades of professional aviation experience to academia, grounded in 23 years of service in Air Traffic Control (ATC). His career provided extensive exposure to flight operations, airspace management, safety‑critical decision making, and the coordination of complex aviation systems. This long‑term operational experience informs his perspective on aviation safety, efficiency, and professional standards.
Prior to joining the Aviation faculty at Utah Valley University, Barney worked throughout the national airspace system in demanding operational environments, developing expertise in real‑time traffic management, risk assessment, and communication. He holds an MBA from the University of Memphis and a Bachelor of Science in Finance from Minot State University, blending operational aviation experience with strong business and management foundations.
As an Assistant Professor of Aviation Science, Jared specializes in connecting legacy aviation systems with modern operational practices, emphasizing real‑world application in aviation management and flight operations education. His teaching approach bridges industry experience and academic theory, preparing students to succeed and lead in today’s complex and evolving aviation environment.
