Fiona Silcox is an Assistant Professor in the School of Aviation Sciences at Utah Valley University (UVU), where she also serves as Concurrent Enrollment Coordinator and Advisor for the Women in Aviation chapter. She holds a Master of Aeronautical Science in Aviation/Aerospace Management and Safety Systems from Embry-Riddle Aeronautical University.
A professional pilot with FAA Commercial Pilot certificate in both airplanes and helicopters, Fiona has extensive higher education, flying, and flight instruction experience spanning over 30 years, including corporate charter operations as a Part 135 First Officer. Over her career, she has held roles as Director of Flight Operations, Interim Associate Dean, FAA Chief Ground Instructor, and most recently, Aviation Safety Director for Flight Operations at UVU. In each of these positions, she has developed and led programs that integrate safety culture, operational excellence, and student success.
Her research and publications focus on aviation safety culture and mental health awareness in collegiate aviation programs. She is an active member of the University Aviation Association Safety Board and the Utah Aeronautics Education & Advisory Board and has presented at national conferences on mental health awareness, safety culture, and organizational safety culture leadership in Collegiate aviation.
