Dr. Tammy Clark

Biography

Dr. Tammy Clark is a Professor of Chemistry at Utah Valley University, where she recently served as Associate Provost for Academic Innovation. In that role, she led UVU's Innovation Academy, overseeing more than a dozen units and initiatives spanning experiential learning, career development, undergraduate research, education abroad, project-based learning, and professional mentorship. She designed and launched signature programs including Excelerate, a project-based summer bridge program for first-generation college students, and e2i, which connects students with real-world, paid external project opportunities before graduation. A central part of her work was also building meaningful connections between students and the professional world, including establishing the Jobs CEO Council and developing landmark partnerships with organizations like FanX Studios, which gave UVU students the opportunity to write professionally alongside Hollywood legends. At the heart of all of it was a deep commitment to helping students discover who they are, understand how their education connects to their future, and graduate with confidence in their direction.

Before coming to UVU, Dr. Clark spent over a decade at Viterbo University, where she served as Department Chair and developed multiple degree programs from the ground up, including a project-based B.S. in Engineering and a multidisciplinary B.S. in Applied Mathematics and Analytics. She also served as the Science Faculty Internship Liaison, establishing more than 20 internship sites across STEM and pre-health fields, and co-chaired the Pre-Health Advising Committee, supporting students navigating pathways into medicine and the health professions. She additionally directed a six-year NSF S-STEM grant that provided scholarships and enrichment programming for cohorts of undergraduate STEM scholars.

Dr. Clark began her career in industry as a Principal Scientist in the Medicinal Chemistry Division of GlaxoSmithKline, where she contributed to the development of two notable compounds_ GSK-690693, an AKT kinase inhibitor, and Eltrombopag (Promacta), a first-in-class thrombopoietin receptor agonist. She holds a Ph.D. in Synthetic Organic Chemistry from the University of Rochester and a B.S. in Chemistry from the University of Minnesota.
