Born Into This

May 14-Sept. 21

Born Into This

Museum of Art at Lakemount

Born and raised in Utah County, brothers James and John Rees were nurtured in the same creative environment. Less than two years apart, much of their childhood was intertwined. They attended the same educational institutions, shared many formative experiences, and had similar interactions with their natural surroundings. Despite their deep connection and similar upbringing, the brothers ultimately traveled different creative paths, developing their own unique voices and artistic sensibilities.

Born Into This: The Art of James and John Rees examines the interplay between personal identity, environment, and artistic expression, encouraging a deeper appreciation for the complexities of the creative process. By juxtaposing the brothers’ contrasting styles, we are drawn to examine their individual techniques, use of media, and thematic choices. This comparative analysis utilizes psychological and sociological perspectives to understand how one’s own perception of shared experiences can influence artistic inspiration and creative responses.
