Our first-year resources are designed to help incoming students maximize their first year by getting familiar with campus services, connecting with the university, and becoming a life-long Wolverine!
You’re here...now what?
Congratulations on making the important decision to attend college and further your education. An investment in yourself is the best investment you can make!
So now that you are here, what can you do to make the most of your university experience? We highly recommend the following:
✓ Go to class...really! Regular attendance is critical to your success as a student.
✓ Check your UVLink email often and explore our website. This is how we communicate important information to you. You may want to forward your UVLink email to an account you check frequently.
✓ See your academic advisor at least once a semester. Your academic advisor will guide you through your university experience and can help you keep on track.
✓ Talk to your instructors and get extra help if needed. Don’t be afraid to ask questions during class and utilize your instructors during their office hours–that’s what they are for.
✓ Get involved. Join a club, participate in student government, attend activities and get connected.
✓ Develop strong study, time, and money management skills. Make your education a priority. If you need help in one of these areas, see your advisor for a list of classes, seminars, or online resources.
✓ Participate in the Freshman Reading Program. This common academic experience will introduce you to the intellectual life at UVU and create a greater sense of community with the campus.
✓ Explore different major and career options. Several resources are available to assist in your exploration: take a class, visit Career Services and Student Employment, talk to an advisor, or check out our website.
✓ Decide now to graduate and use Wolverine Tracks to plan. Make graduation a priority. You can use Wolverine Tracks, available in UVLink, to plan out your entire education and keep you on “track.”
✓ Take a University Student Success class - CLSS1000. This excellent First Year Experience course will teach you strategies for academic success such as critical thinking skills, time and financial management, and effective collaboration techniques.
✓ Talk to your parents, family and friends about your life at UVU. Encourage their support in your academic goals by keeping them informed about your education.
