Aviation Sciences

The School of Aviation Sciences aims to provide a superior educational experience that prepares students for successful careers and promotes responsible citizenship in a global aviation environment. Degrees are offered through technology-enhanced traditional classroom and innovative online delivery methods. Simulations and flight training are integrated with scholarly work to create a complete and well-balanced aeronautics program. The curriculum is developed through ties with industry to incorporate changing standards in technology and procedural advances. A student-centered approach encourages leadership and engaged life-long learning. We emphasize public awareness and safety in aviation as our commitment to the community at large.

Criminal Justice

The Criminal Justice Department at Utah Valley University prepares students for stimulating careers in law enforcement and forensic technology. Each program provides a comprehensive skill set and an understanding of complex issues related to the criminal justice system. A broad range of interactive academic and field experiences are available to students, along with Hands-on training in a 1.4 million dollar, fully equipped state/federal level forensic laboratory. Students in the Criminal Justice department may receive a Certificate of Proficiency in Law Enforcement, an Associate in Science Degree in Criminal Justice, a Bachelor of Science Degree in Criminal Justice, or a Bachelor of Science Degree in Forensic Science.

Dental Hygiene

The Department of Dental Hygiene provides a variety of quality academic, laboratory, pre-clinical and clinical learning experiences that will prepare students to assume the role of dental hygienist in a variety of practice settings. Knowledge required to practice as a competent, legal, ethical dental hygienist is acquired through a shared learning process. A teaching clinic and a mobile x-ray clinic allow students to develop community awareness and engage in service while building professional competencies. The Department offers an Associate in Applied Science in Dental Hygiene and a Bachelor Completion degree in Dental Hygiene. Graduates of the program are prepared to take the national and regional licensure examinations and enter private practice as competent dental hygiene professionals.

Emergency Services

The Emergency Services Department at Utah Valley University prepares practicing and future emergency service professionals through a program that balances technical skills, critical and ethical thinking, leadership, and effective communication. The department aims to support emergency services, crisis and disaster relief through excellence and innovation in education, training, scholarship, and service. Emergency Services classes are scheduled to according to needs of traditional students and firefighters working various shift assignments. Degree programs and individual courses are designed to meet both state and national professional requirements.

Nursing

The Department of Nursing allows students to cultivate requisite knowledge, sound clinical judgment, and a foundation for lifelong learning, as they progress toward becoming competent, caring nurses in a complex and changing health care environment. The undergraduate program is a student-centered engaged learning experience where instructors facilitate the learning of nursing care through simulation and patient interaction. The ASN program prepares the graduate to function individually as a member of the health care team in structured settings in which clients have common health problems, while the prepare graduates to design, coordinate and manage health care, to assume leadership roles, to enter graduate education in nursing, and to develop leadership and management skills.

Public and Community Health

The contribution of the Department of Public and Community Health is to the improvement and well-being of individuals, families and communities. Academic study and course work is designed to guide students toward the intelligent self direction of their health behavior. The department is committed to the development of academic programs that will assist students in the achievement of their professional goals, within the health care field. Courses in the Public and Community Health area of study lead to possible careers in community health education and promotion, school health, health care management, and other community health and human service administration.

Forensic Sciences

The Forensic Science program is committed to fostering a challenging and intellectually stimulating environment that provides a broad range of interactive academic and field experiences. A dedicated crime scene house provides students with a unique space to create, analyze and solve “crimes” in a controlled, non-classroom setting. An understanding and appreciation of theory, research, policy and practice of forensic science can be attained through participation in the program. Unlike television programs that combine several specialized jobs into a single character, crime scene investigators in the field are very different from scientists in the laboratory. Each job has its own educational requirements and neither carry guns or chase suspects. Future professionals can pursue a Bachelor of Science Degree in Forensic Science to become a crime scene investigator (CSI) or a crime laboratory specialist, known as a “Criminalist.”

Police Academy

Utah Valley University is a sanctioned provider of the Utah Law Enforcement Academy, the basic training program for certification of law enforcement officers. The academy is divided into two modules. The first, or core, provides training required for certification of special function officers and is foundational for law enforcement and correctional officers. The second module is required for certification as a reserve or law enforcement officer. The program's regimented courses demand respect and attention to detail. Maturity is a must in order to graduate and have the privilege of being hired as a Law Enforcement Officer.

Firefighter Recruit Candidate Academy

The Firefighter Recruit Candidate Academy (RCA) at Utah Valley University is a demanding, 15-week firefighting academy designed to prepare future firefighters for a career in the fire service by providing Nationally accredited fire and hazardous materials certificationsThese certificates provide students with the knowledge, skills, and abilities to assist them in obtaining a job in Emergency Services, or if already employed, to advance in their careers. Students who complete this certificate program are prepared in every way to compete in order to gain employment in the fire service.

The Master of Public Service (MPS) degree at UVU develops the next generation of public service administrators. The MPS offers students an applied and engaging public sector education with broad-based knowledge, skills, and abilities in public service administration. MSN (Master of Science in Nursing)

The Master of Science in Nursing program at Utah Valley University prepares post-baccalaureate nursing students for advanced practice roles as nurse educators in academic settings and/or as clinical nurse educators in health care institutions. Content focuses on theoretical foundations of nursing education and leadership; tests and measurements of outcomes; curriculum development, implementation and evaluation; and academic and clinical teaching. Courses provide skills and strategies needed for facilitation of learning in a variety of settings.

Utah Fire and Rescue Academy

The Utah Fire and Rescue Academy (UFRA) emerged from a long tradition of providing fire service education in Utah. For over 30 years, Utah Valley University has been the sole provider of fire-related higher education to the firefighters of Utah. The UFRA organization contributes to the safety and security of Utah residents by training fire service emergency responders, creating and maintaining programs and courses related to fire service emergency response, assisting in the development of current and future fire department leaders, and maintaining a certification program that ensures a high degree of professionalism in all disciplines of the fire service.
