The Information Systems & Technology Department (IS&T) prepares students how to become productive team players in today’s business world through balanced offering of certificates, associate, and bachelor’s degrees in Information Systems and Information Technology.

UVU Students Create Useful App
Students at Utah Valley University are getting real world career experience while helping benefit several local non-profit groups at the same time. Students in a two-part information and technology services course have spent the first several weeks of summer planning and developing smartphone apps for groups like the Boy Scouts of America, the Joseph Smith Foundation, Payson City, Rock Canyon Elementary School in Provo, and the accounting club at UVU....

The BS IS includes three emphases: Business Intelligence Systems (BIS), Geographic Information Systems (GIS), and Health Information Systems (HS).
The BIS emphasis prepares graduates to become Business Intelligence Analysts who produce financial and marketing intelligence by querying data
repositories, generating reports, and devising methods for identifying data patterns and trends.
The GIS emphasis provides graduates with the hands-on experience in the type of systems used by many organizations in the form of mapping and decision support systems.
Graduates with the HIS emphasis will use their knowledge of information technology and records management
to form the link between clinicians, administrators, technology designers, and information technology professionals.
Students completing a program in Information Technology learn how to install, manage and maintain the computing infrastructure on which organizational systems run.
The core of the BS IT program prepares students to have a strong foundation in computer architecture, data communication, information security, networks, and system administration.
IS&T Enrollments are Surging!
Enrollments in department classes dramatically increased this fall. Compared to Fall 2011, we have 27.5% more students enrolled in INFO and IT classes. After the first day of Fall 2012 registration, we added four class sections. For Spring, we have added two class secctions and increased class size in some classes.
While the overall enrollment for Summer 2012 was down, our enrollments increased. We offered more sections than the previous summer, and we are planning to offer nine more sections Summer 2013 than Summer 2012!

The BS IT includes two emphases: Computer Forensics and Security and Network Administration and Security.
Network Administration and Security is a concentration leads to such careers as data communication consultants, information security analysts, and network administrators.
The Computer Forensics and Security emphasis provides students with a solid foundation for employment
by government or corporate sector to work in a computer forensics lab as a forensic analyst or in information security.

According to the U.S. Bureau of Labor Statistics, five of the top ten fastest growing jobs between now and 2014 are IT related.
The growth rate for these jobs is expected to be 38-54%. Beginning annual salaries range from $33,000 - $50,000. For the working IS or IT professional, the average annual salaries range from $60,000 - $79,000.
