The Power of Community: Steve Beck ‘98

“When you need help, your involvement in your community helps you,” says Utah Valley University (UVU) alumnus Steve Beck ’98. He is the perfect example of this principle as he has always been the first to get involved in everything he’s done.

Becoming Part of Something Greater

Steve attended UVU when it was known as Utah Valley State College (UVSC). Pursuing a Bachelor of Business Management, he discovered more than just academic courses. Joining the Student Alumni Association, he found value in remaining connected to his alma mater, a commitment he upholds to this day. Serving as the student body president in the 1997–1998 school year allowed him to refine his leadership abilities.

Building a Real Estate Empire

Following his UVU education, Steve relocated to Arizona, earned a master’s in real estate development and began his career. Applying the lessons learned at UVSC, he swiftly established himself as a prominent figure in commercial and residential brokerage, development, and investment. With 25 years of experience, he now serves as the principal and president of COBE Real Estate.

Despite facing challenges, such as the 2008 recession, Steve has persevered, attributing his success to his resilience and network of supporters. Recognizing the role others played in his achievements, he is committed to assisting others in their pursuits.

Giving Back in Arizona and Utah

While Steve now resides far from Utah Valley, he maintains involvement in UVU and his local community. He actively participates in various groups, including the National Advisory Council for Utah Valley University School of Business. Passionate about keeping alumni engaged, he eagerly supports and promotes UVU-hosted events in his vicinity.

Steve played a pivotal role in establishing a UVU alumni community in Arizona. Through his efforts, he helped cultivate a vibrant community of UVU alumni beyond Utah, fostering mutual support and connection.
