Advocating for Justice: Ellen Hall '19
After graduating from Utah Valley University with a degree in Spanish, Ellen Hall ‘19 didn't have a set plan. A spontaneous move to the Gulf Coast of Mississippi led to unexpected opportunities. To keep her Spanish skills sharp, she attended Spanish-language church services, not knowing that this passion for language would one day become a cornerstone of her career.
A Life-Long Journey of Learning
Ellen's academic journey exemplifies her commitment to continuous education. Before earning her Spanish degree at UVU in 2019, she had already completed degrees at other institutions. Her return to UVU as an adult learner demonstrates her belief that education has no age limit.
At age 68, more than three decades after law school, Ellen took the Mississippi bar exam—a challenge many would shy away from. Against the odds, she passed. With renewed purpose, she founded Advocate Law, PLLC, offering legal assistance at minimal cost or pro bono to those in need.
Beyond the courtroom, she and her husband co-founded SaveOS.org, a nonprofit dedicated to exposing political misconduct. Her advocacy extends beyond individual cases, aiming to bring systemic change.
A Wolverine Spirit
Looking back, Ellen credits UVU for being an important chapter in her educational journey. "My Spanish degree was something I felt I needed but didn't know why," she reflects. Now, that education allows her to communicate with clients every day.
Even as her legal career takes center stage, Ellen stays connected to UVU. Teaching at the Woodbury School of Business last year was a meaningful way to give back. With a recent Utah bar exam pass, she can now extend her impact even further.
Ellen has learned that success isn't just about financial gain. "It feels good to help those who are less fortunate," she says. "Take a stand. Speak up for your convictions. Don't let others suffer when you can help."
