HIGH SCHOOL DANCE WORKSHOP

Dear High School Dance Teachers and Parents/Guardians,

Utah Valley University would like to invite high school dance educators, students, and general participants to spend Friday, November 22, 2024 discovering the diverse dance classes our program offers. UVU Department of Dance is proud of its 3 Baccalaureate degrees in dance: (1) BFA in Dance, Modern or Ballet emphases, (2) BS in Dance Education, and (3) BS in Dance, Ballroom emphasis. Additionally, we offer an AS in Dance. UVU’s program is at the cutting edge of Baccalaureate education because of its integrated core curriculum for all dance majors. The Department of Dance at UVU is proud of the exceptional professional faculty with distinctive experience in prestigious national and international companies. Their expertise in performance, choreography, pedagogy, and scholarly research provides unprecedented opportunities for the students in the Department of Dance.

The workshop will feature a full day of activities allowing students to sample what our programs offer. During the workshop, your students will have the chance to take 2 movement classes, meet the faculty, see an informal showing featuring UVU dance companies, and participate in a discussion with Department Chair, Monica Campbell.

Registration for UVU’s High School Dance Workshop closes on Friday, November 15, 2024 at 11:59 PM.

Tentative Schedule

To accommodate the large numbers that the workshop attracts, your students will be guaranteed a space in their choice of one of the following classes: Modern, Ballet, or Ballroom. The other class will be randomly assigned; it is our hope that this will allow your students to gain instruction in their area of interest as well as experience in another dance form. We will work to ensure that no dancer is alone in an assigned class without some members of their school.

UVU is committed to producing the finest in dance. We are offering priority ticket pricing for your High School Dance students to the upcoming Synergy Dance Concert. Synergy Dance Company explores the small but powerful, the intimate but expressive, and the artistry of the individual in their annual celebration of student, faculty, and guest artist choreographies. The company members are dynamic performers as well as imaginative choreographers who present dance as wonderfully diverse and lively performance art.

High School Dance Day is designed to give your students an experience that will communicate our firm conviction that Utah Valley University is going to be the place for them to continue their dance education and build on the foundation you have provided for them. The faculty at Utah Valley University hopes to see you and your students at our workshop. We believe that you will find the workshop of benefit to your dance students, especially those contemplating a future in dance.
