Describe one of your typical workdays:

• Preparing decks for executives, coordinating maintenance with schedule planning, and other logistical constraints such as slot coordination
• Excel, Hyperion, PowerPoint, SAS, Diio Mi, and Air Vision are some of the programs used by Delta Data analysts
• Creating and perfecting reporting methods is also another task that I spend a lot of time on
• Improving efficiency such as automating schedule transitions, improving online internal forms and automating flight numbers for Delta and Delta connection
• Monitor competitive schedule/ performance data for OA to make the best decisions

How many hours do you work in a typical week?

• 40- 50

What parts of your job do you find to be professionally challenging?

• Presenting complex data to wide varieties of audiences
• Sometimes being asked to do something outside of my job responsibility (data analysts have access to a lot of data, which can be valuable to lots of different cross-functional teams).

What do find most enjoyable?

• Business meetings on the phone/ in-person with executives
• Working with the best team I have ever worked with
• Working with people who are passionate about the industry
• Creating reports
• Learning new analytical tools such as Hyperion and SAS
• Flight benefits to travel the world

Are there any downsides to your job?

•  Sometimes a project can take more time than anticipated, so time management can be tough at times

The airline industry is always changing. What have you seen from inside your company? Where do you think the changes will happen in the next five years?

• Automation and more perfected reports will continue to evolve in the corporate world
• Importance for these kinds of jobs is going to go outside of just industry knowledge (must learn basic computer programming language, must be an expert with Excel, macros, VBA, querying data)
• At the end of the day must always be a team player, fun to work with, have new ideas for changing how the industry works, and enjoy data

What is the typical salary for a person in your position in the company?

• $65,000-$150,000

What educational preparation would you recommend for someone who wants to advance in this field?

• BS in aviation science and/ or engineering, computer science, political science, mathematics (any degree with a quantitative discipline)
• Make sure you know excel functions (V-lookups, if statements, VBA, etc.)

What qualifications do you seek in a new hire?

• Someone who is passionate about the industry and is fun to be around
• Have a knowledge of the above educational preparation and be willing to learn
• Be a good teacher
• Be professional and act mature (The CRM philosophy is not only for the cockpit!)
