Job Search — 25 Minutes

Provides practical strategies for navigating the job search, including finding opportunities, using online platforms and networking, tailoring application materials, and organizing an effective search. Students also learn professional expectations throughout the employment process, from communicating with employers and accepting an offer to demonstrating professionalism and workplace etiquette on the job.

Career & Internship Center Services — 25 Minutes

Provides an overview of Career & Internship Center services and resources available to students, including career coaching, internship support, pre-professional advising, career exploration tools, job search assistance, and ways students can engage with the office throughout their time at UVU.

Networking — 25 Minutes

Introduces students to professional networking strategies, relationship-building, elevator pitches, informational interviews, and effective communication techniques for career success.

Career Fair Preparation — 25 Minutes

Helps students prepare for career fairs by covering employer research, professional introductions, resumé preparation, conversation strategies, and follow-up etiquette.

Career Exploration with PathwayU — 25 Minutes

Introduces students to PathwayU and demonstrates how career assessments can help identify interests, values, personality traits, and potential career pathways.

Handshake: Navigating Your Career Platform — 25 Minutes

Introduces students to Handshake and demonstrates how to navigate the platform to search for jobs and internships, view career fairs and events, schedule appointments with Career Counselors and Internship Coordinators, and access additional career development resources.

Internships & Credit — 25 Minutes

Provides guidance on securing meaningful internship opportunities, internship credit and approval processes, internship course requirements, and internship resources and timelines.

LinkedIn Basics — 25 Minutes

Provides a basic introduction to LinkedIn and its key features. Students learn what LinkedIn is, why it is useful for career development, the basic components of a profile, and how to navigate the platform.

LinkedIn & Personal Branding — 50 Minutes

Provides an in-depth approach to building a strong professional presence on LinkedIn. Students learn how to create a polished, high-impact profile, communicate their personal brand, strategically showcase their skills and experiences, build and strengthen professional connections, engage effectively on the platform, and use LinkedIn to increase their visibility and support their career goals.

Resumé Writing — 50 Minutes

Students learn how to create a professional, ATS-friendly resumé that effectively highlights skills, experiences, accomplishments, and transferable skills. Topics include formatting, strong bullet writing, action verbs, tailoring resumés to positions, and common mistakes to avoid.

Resumé + Cover Letter — 50 Minutes

Covers both resumé development and professional cover letter writing. Students learn how to tailor application materials to specific opportunities and communicate their qualifications effectively to employers.

Interviewing — 50 Minutes

Prepares students for interviews by covering preparation strategies, common interview questions, the STAR method, and techniques for communicating qualifications effectively. Students also learn professional interview etiquette, appropriate presentation and communication, virtual interviewing practices, and follow-up strategies to make a strong impression.

Pre-Medical Resources — 50 Minutes

Provides an overview of typical coursework, degree selection, and extracurricular activities involved in preparing for graduate-level health professional programs, including medicine, physician assistant, physical therapy, optometry, veterinary medicine, dentistry, and other health-related fields.

Pre-Law Resources — 50 Minutes

Provides an overview of typical coursework, degree selection, and extracurricular activities involved in preparing for law school and other graduate-level legal education.

Presentation Guidelines

  • Maximum presentation length: 50 minutes
  • Two 20-25 minute topics may be combined
  • Some presentations require the full 50 minutes
  • Offered in person or virtually

Faculty may utilize the following Career & Internship Center resources for classroom assignments related to resumes and mock interviews. You can also refer to our Faculty Resources page for handouts and videos.

Mock Interview Assignments

Students complete mock interview assignments through Quinncia, an AI-powered interview platform that provides automated interview feedback and scoring.

Resume Review Assignments

Students may utilize either of the following options to complete the assignment.

If you are referring students to our office to complete a resume review assignment, we encourage you to notify us in advance by contacting our office at 801-863-6364.

Please Note that the Career & Internship Center is not able to grade assignments, complete evaluation forms, or provide written feedback for students. Faculty are responsible for grading and evaluating student work, including mock interview assignments.
