  • Eric A. Hinderaker | Professor of History at University of Utah

Event hosted by the UVU History and Political Science Department, co-sponsored by the Center for Constitutional Studies

CCS was given the opportunity to co-sponsor a lecture, hosted by the UVU Department of History and Political Science as part of its “Turning Points in History” Lecture Series. “’Motley Rabble’ or Martyrs for Liberty? The Boston Massacre and the Problem of Community,” was presented by Dr. Eric Hinderaker, professor of history at the University of Utah. In his presentation, Dr. Hinderaker detailed some of the events during and shortly following the Boston Massacre, and then discussed how the remembrance of these happenings has been used by many groups to garner sympathy for their cause. Dr. Hinderaker explained that our remembrance of historical events is sometimes politicized, and based on many different accounts; thus making it easy for various individuals and groups to use the same past event to their advantage.
