We the People: The Citizen & the Constitution - 5th Grade Teacher Training
Tuesday & Wednesday, July 12th-13th
We the People: The Citizen & the Constitution teaches upper elementary students about
civics, government, and active citizenship. Students explore the history and principles
of American constitutional democracy through critical thinking, cooperative learning,
and a unique and engaging culminating activity: a simulated congressional hearing.
This training session is for 5th-grade teachers and will cover each module of the We the People program and address questions like:
- What is the Constitution?
- How did the Framers write our Constitution?
- How does the Constitution organize our government?
- How does the Constitution protect our basic rights?
- What are the responsibilities of citizens?
Each session will include discussion time about the topic and providing actionable lesson plans ready for your classroom.
Participants will receive a $200 stipend for attending andup to $400* in funding to run the mock congressional hearing in their classroom.
*Certain requirements must be met to be eligible to receive the additional funding.
This will be explained in more detail at the training.
A modest mileage stipend will be added to the $200 to help assist travel costs.
Lodging is provided for the night for people attending that live more than 70 miles
from UVU.
