To be a community partner: meeting the educational, economic, environmental, social, and cultural needs of our service region
John Coleman headlined the Harvard Business Review in his article “Lifelong Learning Is Good for Your Health, Your Wallet, and Your Social Life”. I could not have summarized the benefits any better. Let's break it down:
Do you want to open your mind to possibilities? Researchers say consistently learning after 35 helps you better adapt to change and the stresses of life as you age. The more lifelong learners in your area, the more likely your community becomes a desirable place to work, live, and retire. Utah County is becoming more cosmopolitan and educated every year.
So, what can you do about it? I encourage all of you to create a personal enrichment plan. Part of that plan should involve a program from Utah Valley University Continuing Education. Through community education programs or even executive education and your company, we have hundreds of programs and ways in which you can achieve your goals.
Importantly, learning brings an enhanced meaning to our lives. Lifelong learning keeps us involved as active contributors to society even after retirement or financial success. Learning a new skill makes you curious and hungrier for more. There is a direct correlation with high levels of education and financial success.
If you manage a business, it is even more important to model intellectual curiosity by funding and sustaining your own learning organization. We can help you build a program customized to your organization’s needs and challenges. The next step is to reach out to me or our team. Executive Education will double in the number of programs and companies served in 2023-2024. Plan to be part of this successful trend.
Individually, If your 2023 plan includes learning a new skill, becoming more familiar with money making techniques, or improving your social skills, we have a Community Education program or set of courses for you. Can learning new things and skills make you happy? Most of our participants say “yes”. Unlike other master courses, UVU’s program fees are modest, and the returns are great. I hope to see you involved in one of our programs soon. You won’t regret it.
