Applicants must have a bachelor's degree with a GPA of 3.0 or higher on a 4.0 scale. Prerequisite knowledge of the following topics is expected: programming or scripting, system administration of Linux and Windows, and networking. Learn about the application process on our application page.

You do not need a technical degree, but you do need certain technical skills to be successful in this master's program. These skills can be learned through prerequisite courses or through experience. UVU offers undergraduate courses that cover these topics.

The application opens November 1, and we encourage candidates to apply early. Applications are reviewed on a rolling basis, with May 31 serving as a priority deadline. If space remains after that date, the application system will remain open, and we may continue to accept applications until the cohort is full. The final deadline is July 15.

Each cohort begins in the fall only.

The Master of Science in Cybersecurity is a fully online program beginning Fall 2026.

The M.S. in cybersecurity program is five semesters long, including one summer semester.

This degree cannot be earned in less than five semesters. We offer two classes (six credits) each semester.

Classes are conducted twice a week via livestream (courses are also recorded so students may view lectures at their convenience).

No, a thesis is not required, but this program does require a semester-long capstone project, which includes a report that is similar to an academic conference paper.

The MCS will accept applications from international students beginning Fall 2026. Please note that international students must attend full-time (9+ credit hours).
