The American Fork Police Department is excited to have been able to work with Utah Valley University’s Criminal Justice Department to produce a series of videos to address domestic violence in our communities.

Domestic Violence is a pervasive problem that impacts people from all walks of life, regardless of financial status, race, gender or education level. It can leave a path of destruction that can impact families over the course of multiple generations. It is my belief that these educational videos will have a positive impact and be a valuable resource to anyone who is involved in a domestic violence relationship or who knows someone who is struggling with its impact in their lives.

As someone who has been in the law enforcement profession for many years, I have seen the impact of domestic violence on communities, families, and children. As we have spoken to members of our community, we have discovered that many individuals want to know more about domestic violence, and what resources are offered to those in need. Unfortunately, we have also found that many people are reluctant to seek out such information in a public setting. We understand that domestic violence and cohabitant abuse is a sensitive matter and that people are hesitant to seek help in public. These videos were designed so that an individual can watch them from the privacy of their home, from their cars or in any other setting that enables them to utilize discretion and the ability to watch the videos in a safe environment.

As we have analyzed many incidents over the years, we have found that education and open communication are crucial to successful outcomes. As a law enforcement community, we are here to help. You are not alone.

Respectfully,

Darren J. Falslev, Chief of Police American Fork Police Department
