Becoming a police officer can fulfill your desire to create a better tomorrow, not only for yourself, but for your family and community.
UVU offers the only satellite academy of Utah Peace Officer Standards and Training in Utah county. Through two modules, Special Functions Officer (SFO) and Law Enforcement Officer (LEO) graduates will become certifiable as Utah Law Enforcement officers.
Successful completion of the academy earns cadets 18 credits that can be used as electives towards a criminal justice bachelor's degree. Tuition, fees, uniforms, and ammunition costs total approximately $6,000 for both modules. Cadets can apply for financial aid including grants, scholarships, loans, and GI benefits where applicable. The low cost and time commitment make the academy a valuable career investment.
Local police departments are announcing an average of three job openings per week. In fact, 81% of our most recent graduates already had jobs lined up before graduation. Graduation from the academy qualifies graduates to be hired by any city, county, or state law enforcement agency in Utah. In Utah County alone, more than 53% percent of the officers are graduates from UVU’s police academy.
Throughout the academy, students are given the opportunity to work as a team to solve meaningful problems that impact society and individuals. Over 50 experienced professional instructors work with students to build the respect, knowledge, and discipline required in the law enforcement culture.
