Construction MGMT Student Earn Second Place in National Competition

Construction Management (CMGT) students from Utah Valley University recently won big at the National Association of Home Builders student competition in Las Vegas.  UVU students entered the custom home competition, which required the team to design a custom home as part of a larger formal business plan in which they were “loaned” $1M to spend on land, materials, marketing, etc.  They were tasked with the responsibility of creating a positive return on investment for the lenders, who were also judging the competition. The student’s creative proposal and live presentation to the judges actually split the $1M project into two custom homes, which allowed the team to generate extra revenues from the projected sale of both homes. This innovative decision propelled the UVU team to a second-place victory out of 20 other universities around the country. The judges were looking for innovation, ROI, design, business strategy, leadership, marketing prowess, etc.
