My Major Dilemma

My Major Dilemma

The My Major Dilemma project was created to help undecided students explore the various majors within the College of Engineering and Technology. Initially conceived by Brad Beebee, the project stemmed from the team’s shared experience of struggling to choose the right degree path. Through a podcast series featuring candid conversations with university professors and staff, the team provided insights into different programs, the skills that help students succeed, and career opportunities after graduation. This resource aimed to bridge the information gap for new students, offering them a clearer path to selecting a major that aligns with their interests and strengths.

Led by Brad Beebee, Jared Andersen, Tracy Paz, and J.R. Canaan (2019–2020) and later by Jacob Byington, Kerry Burnett, and Camille Miner (2020–2021), the project required significant teamwork in scheduling, recording, and producing episodes. The team faced challenges such as coordinating interviews, dealing with guest uncertainties, and adapting to pandemic-related restrictions. However, they overcame these obstacles through careful planning, collaboration, and a willingness to adapt, even preparing for remote interviews when necessary. Technical skills gained from coursework—such as audio recording, editing, and mastering—were instrumental in ensuring high-quality episodes, while interpersonal skills like making guests feel comfortable proved just as essential.

Throughout the project, the team gained invaluable experience in podcast production, communication, and problem-solving. They learned the importance of persistence in securing interviews, the value of thorough preparation in conducting engaging conversations, and the necessity of creating a welcoming environment for guests. The project not only provided a helpful resource for future students but also equipped its creators with industry-relevant skills, from technical audio work to professional networking and interviewing—lessons that will serve them well in their careers.
