Project Summary
Each year, advanced Digital Cinema writing majors and minors in UVU’s Writing for Entertainment Media program embark on a transformative journey to the Austin Writers Conference, one of the most prestigious events in the world for media writing. This annual pilgrimage, typically held at the end of October, offers an unparalleled opportunity to learn from some of the most renowned screenwriters in the industry, including Meg LeFauve (Inside Out, My Father's Dragon), Darren Aronofsky (Black Swan, The Whale), and Shane Black (Iron Man, The Predator, Lethal Weapon).
At the conference, students not only have the chance to engage with these screenwriting giants, but also to network with influential figures from top studios such as Sony, Disney, and Netflix—sometimes even securing valuable contacts and the promise of ongoing communication. This immersive experience provides invaluable insights into the craft of screenwriting, including practical advice on overcoming common challenges like writer’s block, self-doubt, and the frustration of perfecting a story.
