Channel Islands Virtual Tours Project

Channel Islands Virtual Tours Project

Project Summary

Ari Curtis and Adrinn Kang’s senior Capstone project, in collaboration with Channel Islands National Park, aims to bring the park’s hidden natural wonders to mainland visitors through immersive virtual reality experiences. Recognizing that most visitors never set foot on the remote islands themselves, the team developed two innovative workflows for the Meta Quest VR headset—panoramic astrophotography and 360° underwater videography. They captured the islands’ dark night skies and vibrant kelp forest ecosystems using custom methods involving night photography and submersible camera rigs. The result is a rich, educational, and visually stunning experience housed at the park’s Mainland Visitor Center, offering accessible and lasting digital preservation of the park’s beauty for future generations.
