DGM Scheduling App

DGM Scheduling App

Project Summary

The UVU scheduling app is a long-term project conducted by the Digital Media Department. The goal of the app is to reduce administrative efforts and time on task for faculty by streamlining the schedule-making process.

During their time working on this project, the development team aimed to tackle the following features:

  • Create a working CSV file uploading feature that can take in the CSV and pull the necessary data into a viewable schedule.
  • Convert the uploaded schedule into a printable view and allow the user to print the schedule on 8 ½ x 11-inch paper.
  • Filter through the scheduling information and control the view on the screen by selecting which professors, rooms, and courses are relevant to the desired schedule output.
  • Edit the schedule and adjust the information by:
    • Showcasing the modules corresponding to either the click of the Add Custom Schedule Button or Edit Schedules Button.
    • Allowing the user to fine-tune the details of the schedule.
    • Providing the option to either add the schedule/save changes or cancel to return to the previous slide-out menu screen.
    • Allow the user to add custom courses to the schedule.

Outcome:
The team was able to accomplish all of the goals outlined over the two semesters they contributed to its evolution. Every feature the developers were tasked with creating became part of a live, working site by the end of the semester. Through user testing, the team was able to measure its effectiveness and ensure that the MVP was in a usable state. Zac assessed what worked and what did not through a series of user tests, setting up the next group to take over the project. Future creators can expect to work on features such as a login service, a database that stores users’ schedules, more robust export features, and enhancements to the overall development and design that are not yet in the app.
