Banner 8 Self-Service Migration

Banner 8 Self-Service Migration

Project Overview

  • Starting January 1, 2026, all services within Banner 8 Self-Service will become a significant security risk as they will no longer receive essential security updates or defect patches. Additionally, Ellucian will revoke authorization with future updates, which will fully break the services inside of SSB8.
  • Due to the discontinuation of Banner 8 Self-Service, all applications, services, and forms will need to be migrated to another solution or tool by December 31, 2025. The ERP Software Services (ESS) team will work with corresponding Dx Partner Directors to lead this migration project for all functional areas across the University. Currently, ESS is in the discovery phase, assessing all active services in Banner 8 Self-Service to determine which are still in use and require migration. We are also communicating with Ellucian to understand what functionality currently exists in the Ellucian Ecosystem to replace the old services in Banner 8 Self-Service

Migration Process

  • Members of the ESS team and Dx Partner Directors will soon be reaching out to meet with key stakeholders in each functional area using Banner 8 Self-Service. During these meetings, we will collaborate to identify which services, applications, or forms your functional area uses in Banner 8 Self-Service. This will be a collaborative effort where we share the services that Dx is already aware of, while also giving functional areas the opportunity to inform us of any services we may have missed.
  • After all services have been identified, we will determine if they are obsolete or need to be migrated to another tool or solution. If migration is necessary, functional users will work with ESS to determine what the service does, and what functionality needs to remain in the new solution after migration. We have three general migration options (ordered by preference):
    1. Utilize existing tools or solutions that UVU already has, including those in Banner 9 Self-Service or other third-party software UVU has already purchased.
    2. If current solutions do not meet the desired functionality, your functional area may consider purchasing a new software solution. However, this should be a last resort and must follow proper channels and UVU policy for software acquisition.
    3. Request in-house custom development of a new application or software service. This option should also be considered carefully as it is also a last resort if other services do not meet desired functionality and must follow proper channels and UVU policy for project requests through Dx
  • We understand that migrating from Banner 8 Self-Service may be concerning. Rest assured, no services, applications, or forms will be removed without a proper replacement. ESS and Dx will manage these changes over the next year. Expect a meeting invite from the ESS team or your Dx Partner Director soon to start this process

Rollout Schedule

  • Ellucian Begins Maintenance Support for SSB8: July 1, 2022 - September 30, 2025
    • During this period, there will be no support for low-level requests enhancements, or new releases
  • Ellucian Begins Sustaining Support for SSB8: October 1, 2025 - December 31, 2025
    • This phase means there will be no more regulatory updates or hotfixes for severe defects
  • Ellucian Discontinues Support for SSB8: January 1, 2026
    • After this date, we will lose access to all support, making Banner 8 Self-Service vulnerable to security risks

Frequently Asked Questions

  1. Who can I contact if I have questions regarding the migration?
    1. A member of the ESS Team or the Dx Partner Director assigned to your divison/ functional area.
  2. What is going to happen to my application or service inside of SSB8?
    1. All services and applications must be migrated to a new platform, tool, or software by December 31st, 2025. The ESS team and Dx Partner Directors will work with each functional area to create a migration plan together. Expect to hear from us shortly if you haven't already. If you'd like to reach out to us first, contact a member of the ESS Team or your Dx Partner Director for specific questions.
  3. I have reports inside of SSB8. It is not a service or application, it just displays data. What will happen to those reports?
    1. Reports will also need to migrate to another platform by December 31st, 2025. When the ESS Team and Dx Partner Directors meet with functional areas, we will identify which reports exist in SSB8 that need to be migrated. We will include the report as part of your migration plan. These report migrations will be completed by another department in Dx. The ESS department will not be recreating any reports from SSB8.
