Biography
Tyler Small is the Senior Director of the Kahlert Applied AI Institute at Utah Valley University (UVU). Prior to this role, he served as an AI advisor to UVU, consulting on the development of AI-related degree programs, academic pathways, and department-level AI strategy.
With more than a decade of experience in AI and technology-enabled transformation, Tyler specializes in applied generative AI, institutional strategy, governance, and workforce alignment. His work focuses on helping departments move beyond isolated pilots to build sustainable capabilities that prepare students for the realities of an AI-driven economy.
Tyler has advised universities, public-sector organizations, and industry partners on academic program design, responsible AI adoption, and applied implementation at scale. He is particularly passionate about supporting faculty and academic leaders as they adapt curriculum, assessment, and learning experiences to better equip students with practical, ethical, and job-relevant AI skills.
As Senior Director, Tyler leads the Applied AI Institute’s efforts to integrate AI across education, operations, and industry partnerships, advancing UVU’s mission to prepare graduates for meaningful work in an AI-enabled workforce.
