Lorilynn Brandt

Biography

Dr. Lorilynn Brandt is an associate professor in the School of Education at Utah Valley University. She teaches courses in Literacy Methods, Children?s Literature, and graduate literacy courses. She has worked with teacher candidates for 20 years-10 years at UVU and 10 years at Utah State. Dr. Brandt is a strong proponent of research-based reading instruction. Her passion is to provide students with cutting edge instruction and then provide continued direction on implementation in classrooms. Lorilynn serves as chair of the Literacy Committee in the Elementary Education Department at UVU.

Dr. Brandt works with local school districts on professional development courses focused on literacy. She also serves on state USOE committees which evaluate literacy standards, outcomes, and practices in Utah schools in an effort to improve literacy outcomes across the state. Despite a busy schedule, Lorilynn puts top priority to regularly volunteering in elementary classrooms helping early and struggling readers.

Lorilynn serves as a director for UVU Read-a-Difference (RaD), a team of educators and researchers dedicated to helping teachers find enjoyment and engagement into their reading programs by implementing motivational principles into their routines. Read-a-Difference is a branch of the Forum on Engaged Reading that sponsors the School of Education's annual literacy conference.

Dr. Brandt has served as chair/co-chair/committee member of UVU?s annual literacy conference. Conference keynotes include award winning authors, illustrators and research/motivational speakers.

Dr. Brandt has received a number of awards including: 2017 UVU Outstanding Educator Award; 2014 UVU Outstanding Educator Award; Davis School District Teacher of the Year; Syracuse Elementary Teacher of the Year.
