Matt Draper

Biography

Matt Draper is a professor at Utah Valley University. He earned a bachelor's degree from Brigham Young University and a master's and a doctorate from the University of Texas at Austin. After graduate school, he served as an Associate Professor and Director of Clinical Training in CMHC at Indiana State University before moving to UVU.

His clinical background includes college counseling centers, hospitals, refugee trauma centers, supermaximum security prisons, and addiction rehabilitation.

The courses he teaches include General Psychology, Techniques of Counseling, Eastern Perspectives, Psychology of Sex and Gender, Abnormal Psychology, Forensic Psychology, Psychology of Good and Evil, Counseling and Psychotherapy, Group Counseling, History and Systems of Psychology, East Meets West, Internship, DSM Diagnostics, and the Psychology of Heavy Metal.

His research utilizes mostly case studies and the theory and philosophy of psychotherapy. The specific topics usually include clinical forensics, sexuality, spirituality, faith transitions, ethics, morality, addictions, and gaming. His collaboration group meets Wednesday afternoons during the long semesters and interested parties are always welcome.
