Dr. Hamed Shafiei (حامد شفیعی) is an Assistant Professor of ESOL and Teacher Education at Utah Valley University. Dr. Shafiei teaches undergraduate and graduate courses in ESOL, instructional strategies, and differentiated instruction within the Elementary Education program in the School of Education, where he prepares pre-service teacher candidates to develop the pedagogical knowledge, practical skills, and professional dispositions necessary to effectively support Multilingual Learners (MLs) in mainstream inclusive classroom settings. Through his teaching, he emphasizes research-based instructional practices, culturally and linguistically responsive pedagogy, as well as the integration of theory with authentic classroom application. Prior to joining UVU, Dr. Shafiei served as a general education teacher in Florida for a period of two years and became a certified K-6 teacher.
Dr. Shafiei’s research centers on differentiated instruction for ML students in mainstream classrooms. His scholarly work examines how elementary teachers design, adapt, and implement instruction to address both the academic and linguistic needs of ML students. More broadly, his research contributes to ongoing conversations about equitable access, effective instructional practices, and the role of teachers in creating inclusive learning environments that support the success of diverse student populations.
