Dr. Hamed Shafiei (حامد شفیعی) is an Assistant Professor of ESOL and Teacher Education at Utah Valley University. He earned his Ph.D. in Curriculum and Instruction specializing in ESOL/Bilingual Education from the University of Florida and obtained his master’s degree in TESOL from West Chester University of Pennsylvania. Dr. Shafiei teaches ESOL courses at UVU and guides pre-service teacher candidates to develop the skills needed to excel as educators of Multilingual Learners (MLs) in mainstream inclusive classroom settings.
Before joining UVU, Dr. Shafiei served as a general education teacher in Florida where he taught English Language Arts and Social Studies for a period of two years and became a certified K-6 teacher.
Dr. Shafiei’s research interests center around differentiated instruction for ML students in mainstream inclusive classrooms. His work examines how elementary teachers differentiate instruction for ML students to address these students' instructional and linguistic needs.
