Biography

Some may say it takes time to live a life full of diverse experiences and service. Examining my life, I have found the opposite; my time has not been taken, but profoundly expanded by learning, teaching, and service. Together with my wife and four (now adult) children, I have striven to live a life filled with diversity and meaning.
I was raised in Utah and graduated from Provo High School in 1986. I attended the U.S. Air Force Academy in Colorado Springs, Colorado before serving a mission for the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints to Madrid, Spain. Upon return from Spain, I finished my undergraduate degree in Zoology at Brigham Young University while simultaneously pursuing an aviation career. I worked as a commercial pilot for several years before returning to school at Ferris State University in Big Rapids, Michigan for teacher certification in secondary education. I worked as a Spanish teacher in high school and at Northwestern Michigan College for just over a decade. During that period I earned a Master of Arts in Teaching from Bennington College in Vermont. In a final career shift, in 2014 I returned again to my studies at Wayne State University in Detroit, Michigan. There I earned a Master of Science in Physician Assistant Studies. Following graduation, I worked as a PA in cardiothoracic surgery for a year, then returned to Utah to accept a position as a PA in pulmonology.
In 2022 I accepted a position as faculty in UVU's physician assistant studies program. Marrying many of my talents and expertise, I feel that this is the most meaningful and best-fit professional situation I have ever found. I am proud to be a part of this successful and consequential work.
