Dr. Samuel Liang

Biography

Samuel Y. Liang, PhD in art history, specializes in architectural history, urbanism, and Chinese cultural studies. Before joining the Humanities Program at UVU in 2011, he taught architectural history and Chinese art and culture in China, the United States, and Great Britain. He is the author of three books and numerous journal articles, including Mapping Modernity in Shanghai: Space, Gender, and Visual Culture in the Sojourners? City 1853?98 (New York: Routledge, 2010); Remaking China?s Great Cities: Space and Culture in Urban Housing, Renewal, and Expansion (New York: Routledge, 2014); and a book in Chinese on Shanghai urban space (2018)
