Biography

I'm a Utah native and graduated with a Ph.D. in Analytical Chemistry from the University of Utah studying laser spectroscopy. Following graduate school, I studied as a postdoctoral research associate at the University of Central Florida developing surface plasmon resonance (SPR) techniques to quantify contaminants in water. I joined UVU faculty after nearly ten years as a lecturer at one of the largest undergraduate schools in the United States and look forward to continuing research and pedagogical interests with the outstanding students in Utah Valley.

Awards

Jim and Kathy Spencer Scholar

Spencer Foundation - June, 2023

This award provided a scholarship to attend the National Conference to Advance POGIL Practice and receive additional training in process skills and the learning cycle. The three-day conference occurred in June 2023.

2nd Place, Blended Course Design

Utah Valley University - April, 2023

Selected by the University Flexible Learning Council, this award recognizes revision of a face-to-face laboratory class, Chem 1225, in collaboration with Dr. Ming Yu.

Faculty Excellence Award

Utah Valley University - April, 2022

The purpose of the Faculty Senate Faculty Excellence Award is to recognize full-time and adjunct faculty who have made significant contributions to UVU's mission through demonstrated excellence in teaching, scholarship, and service. Through this award, UVU intends_
To publicly acknowledge the achievements of its faculty members in creating an academically engaged environment at UVU.
To demonstrate to the community the exemplary standards of academic professionalism to which the faculty members of UVU are dedicated;
To encourage faculty within UVU to pursue the highest levels of excellence in every aspect of their work (consistent with the best of academic traditions).

Wolverine Sighting Award

Utah Valley University - August, 2021

I was nominated by department chair, Merrill Halling, for this local award. It recognizes services within the UVU community. He was acknowledging the work I had performed over Summer 2021 to rebuild the Chem 1215 laboratory course.
