Biography

Born and raised in Southern California, I lived only a few miles from the beach. After graduating from UCLA with a bachelor?s degree in mathematics, I taught high school mathematics for Los Angeles Unified School District. While there I learned about this thing called graduate school and thought it was a fun idea. So, I spent the next seven years in grad school where I earned MS in Mathematics from Cal Poly San Luis Obispo and a Ph.D. in Curriculum and Instruction with an emphasis in Mathematics Education from the University of Oregon. From Oregon, we moved to upstate New York ? for my first tenure track position. While there I taught mathematics courses and supervised student teachers across this very rural part of New York State. This is where I learned to drive manual transmission as well as driving in wintry conditions. From there we moved to Kansas City, Missouri, where I was an adjunct instructor at Johnson County Community College. Moving to Utah in 2002, I began teaching in the mathematics department at UVU in January 2003. I was hired as a mathematics education assistant professor in August 2009 and earned tenure and rank advancement in 2015. Utah is my fifth state and fourth time zone and I happily call it home.
